Physiotherapy typically requires a series of visits to help you get from where you are to where you want to be. Individualized assessment and treatment planning means that you get exactly what you need, and nothing that you don't, all in consideration of your unique needs and preferences. Your active involvement is the key to success! During the initial assessment we will both learn to understand your pain and how it responds to movement (that's the mechanical diagnosis part of the McKenzie method). You'll also share how and when your pain affects you, along with your goals and what success will look like for you. You'll take away tools for beginning to manage your pain, with a plan of action to keep pain at bay. This often involves one key exercise, and considerations for movements and the positions you are typically in throughout your daily life. Subsequent visits will monitor your symptoms and exercise performance to ensure progress towards your goals. Typically 3-5 additional visits are needed as your pain improves to guide you in recovering full mobility and returning to your usual activities. The last, but not least important, part of your Physiotherapy program involves leaving with the tools for long term maintenance and prevention of recurrence, so that you can go on to experience lasting success! |
